DON'T TAKE ME TO TOKYO
Japan travel for people who’ve already been
Thoughtfully designed journeys created by specialists

I'm Cate. I’ve worked in Japanese travel long enough to know the industry’s greatest hits by heart. The Tokyo–Hakone–Kyoto circuit. The sushi class. The tea ceremony. The bullet train photo through the window glare.
It’s fine, the first time. But go back, and it starts to feel like déjà vu with better luggage.
That’s what Don’t Take Me to Tokyo is about: It’s not anti-Tokyo. It’s anti-automatic.
It’s for travellers who’ve done the checklist and are ready for more, people who love Japan enough to want to keep exploring. You still want great hotels, great food, and seamless logistics. You just don’t want them packaged like souvenirs.
I started this because I was tired of watching travel become content. Japan deserves better than bucket lists and “instagram made me do it” experiences.
So I keep it small. Personal. Real. I work directly with local hosts, steer clear of places buckling under overtourism, and design trips that give more back than they take.

1Let's Talk
We’ll start with a free 30-minute call to shape your ideas and get a feel for how you like to travel
2I design your itinerary
You’ll receive a detailed, tailor-made itinerary: hotels, experiences, and logistics chosen around you, not an algorithm
3We refine it together
Tweaks, swaps, upgrades — this part’s collaborative until it feels right
4You confirm and pay securely
20% deposit initiates the booking process, with the full balance due around 8 weeks before travel.
Your trip is booked through an ATOL-protected UK tour operator within the Independent Travel Experts network, so every penny and every yen is covered
5Travel with confidence
You’ll have 24/7 in-country support, smooth private transfers, and everything pre-arranged, from bath passes to bullet trains
🌾🏯 How much does it cost?
My planning service is included at no extra charge.
I earn commission from trusted partners in Japan, so you only pay for your holiday arrangements. That means I only earn when you’re happy with your plans.
My time, expertise, and careful itinerary design are part of the service, not an add-on.
If you’d like to talk things through, you can book a consultation here.
🌾🏯 What's included as standard?
I work on a package basis, not as a booking service for one-off hotels or experiences.
That means you get the complete trip from first enquiry to when you return home: beautifully planned itinerary design, handpicked hotels and ryokan, and seamless logistics that make travelling through Japan smooth and stress-free.
It’s the best of both worlds: expert planning and full financial protection.
If plans change or something unexpected happens, you’ll have complete peace of mind knowing everything is handled together, as one protected package. You just tell me what you want to do, and I’ll design how it all fits together. Easy.🌾🏯 What is included — at no extra cost?
Because I keep my operations small and personal, your holiday comes with a few luxuries built in — complimentary, as they should be:
🏯 Airport lounge access before departure, start your trip rested, not rushed.
🚗 Private airport transfers upgrade in Japan, smooth arrivals and stress-free returns.
🌐 Portable Wi-Fi device, stay connected without chasing signal bars.
✨ Portable battery pack, because great photos shouldn’t cost you your phone’s life.Every detail is handled. All you have to do is enjoy the journey.
🌾🏯 Can I arrange my own flights?
Of course. I’ll design your itinerary so the ground arrangements fit perfectly around them.
If you’d rather I arrange them for you, I can do that too.
Booking flights as part of your package means you’ll get full financial protection, smoother coordination on timings and transfers, and one point of contact for your entire trip, so no juggling between airlines and agents if plans change.Either way, I’ll make sure your journey runs seamlessly from take-off to touchdown.
🌾🏯 Do you arrange private guides?
Always, if you want them. I only work with guides who add real insight, the kind who know the local noodle shop, not just the temple times.
For some travellers, that’s been a Zen monk leading a private meditation. For others, it’s tracking black bears in the Japan Alps, watching samurai swords forged by hand, or making washi paper with an artisan in the hills. I’ve arranged seats at that sushi counter, exclusive access to a temple’s private moss garden, front row seats for the sumo, and guides that can take you to cultural sites so secret you're not even allowed to take photos.
Whatever your interests, I’ll match you with the right guide or expert to open doors that most travellers never even see.
🌾🏯 Is my booking fully financially protected?
Yes. All holidays are fully financially protected. Flight-inclusive packages are ATOL protected, while land-only arrangements carry equivalent financial protection through Independent Travel Experts.
That means your money is safe and your arrangements are guaranteed, no matter what happens before or during travel.🌾🏯 How do I start planning?
Book a 30-minute consultation — we’ll talk through ideas, pace, and style. What you liked before, and what you never want to do again. Then I’ll build your Japan trip from the ground up.

Japan doesn’t need more lists.
It needs context, and curiosity
